China Eastern Airlines Corporation Limited was established in April 1995 and listed on the Stock Exchange Markets of Hong Kong, Shanghai and New York barely three years later. The organisation today is one of the largest civil aviation entities in China, with its headquarters operating fromShanghai. Its assets are worth more than 98.5 billion Chinese dollars and employing over 60’000 staff.

Its core business enterprise includes providing air transportation services for passengers, cargo and luggage, and services such as aircraft maintenance and running travel agencies. In order to extend its reach into the South-East Asian market, China Eastern Airlines Singapore was established.

Accolades

In recognition of its excellence in service standards, China Eastern has consecutively won the “Annual Laureate Award” and the “10-Year Cordial Service Award” awarded by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Its other accolades include winning the “Five-Star Diamond Award” awarded by theAmericanAcademyof Hospitality Sciences.

China Eastern was the sole global airline partner of the World Expo 2010 held inShanghai,China; testament of its excellence and influence in the Chinese aviation industry.

Flight Routes

China Eastern serves passengers from 182 destinations. WithShanghaias its central hub, China Eastern has an extensive network that covers China, Asia, Europe, America and Oceania.

Locally, China Eastern is looking to exploit the expanding domestic flight market, whilst at the same time; it has plans to expand its international presence. Moving forward, the airline is looking to include 900 more international destinations on its flight routes.

Fleet

China Eastern has a fleet more than 300 wide and narrow-body aircraft, all from the Airbus manufacturer. Not just so, it is also the first Chinese carrier to place orders with Airbus. The bulk of its fleet is made up of the A320 series that are used mainly for domestic flights. In a bid to expand its fleet, the airline placed orders for Boeing 787 Dreamliners in 2005, although it is now considering cutting down purchases from Airbus.

Flyer Programme

China Eastern’s frequent flier programme is also called Eastern Miles. Registration for this programme is free and members get to earn credit for distances travelled, and this includes purchases made for travelling with China Eastern Airlines Singapore.

When sufficient miles are accumulated, members get to be upgraded to its VIP membership, which is divided into two tiers – the Golden Card membership and Silver Card membership. All VIP members can expect to enjoy extra privileges.
